MatericLook: MossyCorridor - urbex wallpaper art 3d graphics by Francesco Perratone

A new urbex image, this comes from an abandoned asylum in Tuscany…

One of the main corridors on the asylum ground floor, inside one of the more damaged buildings. The roof partially collapsed.

You can see the first floor is damaged too, just at the end of the corridor it fell through. This gives a nice place for the light (and rain) to enter the building.

From there on, the place began to seem a bit more creepy than outside, you’ll see it in some of the other images! 😉

About the image itself:

I like the depth and transition from darkness to light, through strange shapes and formless shadows here and there…  Also this one is a multiple exposure with HDR elements, with the addition of a little bit of digital painting (just a few pixels, to correct some excessive noise), and a few other operations to get some nice subjects from the different shots.

The doors and the light coming from outside give some nice touch of shape and color. It’s more evident on the lateral doors themselves and on the front wall, around the double door frame. However the best part (in my opinion) is the mossy green wood! It plays with the vegetation green at the very end, behind the bars, and with the green light reflected on the right, bottom door.

The flaking paint on the walls is also giving a nice warm tone to the entire image. The floor, covered in rubble, gives more depth and details. It accompanies the eyes toward the double front door.

I will create some urbex wallpaper versions of this one for my patrons, to be used on various screens and resolutions.

As (almost) all my works, this is available as a print on large canvas (limited to 10) or cotton paper (signed). If interested you can take a look at the shop. If it’s not available yet, you can contact me directly.

MatericLook: Warm¿ - Armenia Photography and art

An image from Yerevan, Armenia. It depicts a beautiful sculpture from Yue Minjun, a contemporary artist from China. The work is named “Untitled”, as some of his others… he works mainly with oil colors and his recognizable characters can be found in sculptures, design items, watercolors, prints…
Yue Minjun works are strong, the smiling faces are masks, hiding the contemporary man’s true self. They’re a critique towards today society. Apart from Armenia, you can find his works in galleries or public places in Canada, US, Europe and of course China and Korea.
The shot was taken rotating a bit the frame, to give more strength to the facial expression on the statue. In post-production a bit more contrast, to highlight the traits and wrinkles of the exaggerated expression. And a bit more of the reflected colors, intensifying the chrome-like look. Cold blue from the sky in the upper left corner and warm yellow/brown  from the floor stones.

MatericLook: LightPath 00 by Francesco Perratone, Austria Photography and art

Here’s a new image of a sunset over Vienna.

The picture was taken a few days ago, on a cold 31st of December 😉

While the Sun was disappearing, those beautiful colors faded in…. the view is from the main bridge crossing Donauinsle , an island on the Danube. The area is mainly recreational, restaurant, bars, and nice places to take a walk or a run.

The church silhouette is from St. Francis of Assisi church, also known as Mexico Church or Kaiserjubiläumskirche. Unfortunately it was closed at the time, so I couldn’t take a look inside.

Looking in the opposite direction there was an equally magnificient view. A glass skyscraper was reflecting the light and colors, blending with the background.

Apart from the colors and contrast, I like the geometry and composition, with that nice slice of Moon peeking through the sky…

Enjoy! :-)

My eligible patrons have access to different high resolution versions of the above image, to be used as wallpapers. you can check the Patreon campaign post here.

MatericLook: Amaghu Valley by Francesco Perratone, Armenia Photography and art

A work from the Armenia Photography series, a sunset view of the beautiful Amaghu Valley, where Noravank Monastery sits.

The valley is named after the river Amaghu, in some places it’s narrow, becoming a real canyon. Located in the Vayots Dzor region, is not far from the city of Yeghegdnazor.

The valley’s peculiar features (apart from the fascinating Noravank Monastery) are its cliffs, whose bright red rocks emerge on their sides. The drive to the monastery is nice and pleasant. This particular view comes from the bottom of the valley, before starting the short climb to the religious building.

For this image I used first of all the usual techniques, like HDR, multiple exposures and a small bit of digital painting. Then I started experimenting a bit…

I intensified the light/shadow contrast by using harmonious curves, with a “rhythm” similar to those extrapolated from classic sculpture. Finally I combined the dark and light areas with the existing luminance details, before applying them to the work.

I would say the results aren’t bad. In this particular image I followed the pre-existing land profiles. As a result the influenced areas are fitting nicely without a strong distinction.

I’d like to do more experiments in this direction, probably with other kind of images, more abstract, where the contrast can be stronger.

MatericLook: FoggyPastures0 by Francesco Perratone

A lovely morning, a bit cold, maybe, but light and colors are great and the fog is moving through the valley… a feeling of calmness permeates everything.

MatericLook: VeniceLandscape0 by Francesco Perratone, Venice Photography, Art

Bad weather is approaching fast, the landscape is becoming darker and darker. A strip of buildings on the other side seems to be the only source of light, also the water is dark and starting to become agitated.

MatericLook: GreenShrimp by Francesco Perratone, experiment, art, photography

This is an experiment, a nice detail picture of some shapeless food remains in a puddle of oil…

Extensively modified through digital effects, layering and painting. Just to extract that “materic” look, almost completely detaching it from reality.
