MatericLook: P3 by Francesco Perratone, Patreon looping micro animation, art, 3d

I hope you’re enjoying one of the small animations I used to decorate my Patreon page.

This version is huge, both in resolution and number of frames, for an animated GIF, so please let me know in the comments if it’s not working with your configuration! (So I know for the next ones).

If you like this or some other works I’ve done, please consider supporting me on Patreon!

MatericLook: The Kitchen 00 by Francesco Perratone, Art, Urbex, Photography WIP

After some work here and there and looking through all the exposures I isolated a number of interesting parts, then I brought out all of those areas from the most interesting picture.

I mostly concentrate in lights, patterns and reflections…. some are pretty obvious, like the splatters on the left wall tiles, other a bit less expected and beautiful, like the light cut from the window. The two patterns from shadows and dirt on ceiling and floor are nice, also created by the right window’s light.

I will accentuate those during the painting process, with brush strokes direction and shape.

The position of furniture and tables is also casting some shadows, improving the overall shape of the highlights on the floor, that’s good for isolating different colors and creating contrast…

Next step: the painting process…

MatericLook: ColmarShades0 by Francesco Perratone

The town is rich of fairy-tales views, thanks to its architecture and colorful Christmas lights. It’s cold, but not much, ideal for exploring and looking around, discovering interesting corners….

Colmar, view

This is a technique interesting for drawing the attention on some parts of the image, it’s also possible to simulate a kind of photographic defocus  and add some movement and direction. Very similar to “true” painting, unfortunately some tech tools are needed to be able to reach a similar expressive freedom within digital media.

The Shop is back online!

After some time for system migration, restyling and organization, the new shop is working:

shop.matericlook.com (you can also find it through the menu on top)

The products are the usual limited edition canvases, optionally already stretched (around 80 x 50 cm, 31″ x 20″, depending on subject),

but there’s also a new, interesting, and cheaper format for all works:

A 100% cotton paper signed edition in smaller size (40 x 25 cm, 10″ x 16″)

I print them on top quality Hahnemuhle fine art paper, contrast and brightness are incredible!:

MatericLook: GreenShrimp by Francesco Perratone, experiment, art, photography

This is an experiment, a nice detail picture of some shapeless food remains in a puddle of oil…

Extensively modified through digital effects, layering and painting. Just to extract that “materic” look, almost completely detaching it from reality.

Manipulated photo

WxH 53.3 x 80.3 cm, 21 x 31.62 inches

Experiment: GreenShrimp

3D extrapolated from an oil painting

(Limited edition of 30)

This is an experiment, a video created using an oil painting as a starting idea.

The direction followed points towards the creation a creature, a huge creature similar to a living planet, the movement is a key concept to give life to the whole thing and, most important, to evolve and keep part of the materic look of the oil painting we used.

This is W5, the oil painting:

Some of the choices made to get to this look are experiments that can open or close new ways to explore, especially in the creation and fluidity of the movement and transformation, probably more “Things” will come!

The animation exists in another version, with red/orange high ground, more similar to the original painting and with a strong color and temperature contrast:

Some of the frames are interesting enough to justify a further elaboration of the data, model and techniques to produce high resolution images for high quality printing in big size (>300 DPI).
