3D extrapolated from an oil painting

(Limited edition of 30)

This is an experiment, a video created using an oil painting as a starting idea.

The direction followed points towards the creation a creature, a huge creature similar to a living planet, the movement is a key concept to give life to the whole thing and, most important, to evolve and keep part of the materic look of the oil painting we used.

This is W5, the oil painting:

Some of the choices made to get to this look are experiments that can open or close new ways to explore, especially in the creation and fluidity of the movement and transformation, probably more “Things” will come!

The animation exists in another version, with red/orange high ground, more similar to the original painting and with a strong color and temperature contrast:

Some of the frames are interesting enough to justify a further elaboration of the data, model and techniques to produce high resolution images for high quality printing in big size (>300 DPI).

MatericLook: ViDue_MXD321PRN by DoPe

Another old work from DoPe (me, Francesco Perratone and Paolo Dolci, a great painter).

Also this comes from a short animation we’ve done. once an “interesting” frame has been identified the work has been detailed a bit more, recalculated at much larger resolution and bit of post production has been added.

Another old work from DoPe (me, Francesco Perratone and Paolo Dolci, a great painter).

A more “planetary” approach to the spheres series, a living planet seen from outer space.

The idea of the still as a work by itself comes from a short animation we’ve done. once an “interesting” frame has been identified the work has been detailed a bit more, recalculated at much larger resolution and a bit of post production has been added.

MatericLook: DiPi_MXD627PRN by DoPe

Another work I’ve done some time ago as DoPe, starting from an oil painting by Paolo Dolci.

Also here, I used the original painting’s colors and textures to build the shapes and the materials on the creature, a living sphere/planet…

The high quality large print shows a lot of interesting details were to lose yourself wandering around, the idea for a still image comes from a short animation you can see here.

MatericLook: NoID0_SatanicPOP by Francesco Perratone

A work a bit different from the others: “Autoritratto Satanico” by Sandrun (more info about him here) re-elaborated multiple times and assembled.

The meeting point and above all a contrast point… most of the times Sandrun created just because he felt it, occasionally he destroyed his work before some of his friends could “save” it. That’s the sharpest divergence from Warhol’s concepts of repetition and massification, so the ID in the title stands for identity.

The divergences between the two artists continue in their lives, personalities and artwork, on many levels and from different point of views, in fact it would be interesting to develop an entire serie of works just about this subject while studying them. It’s not easy to find english information about Sandrun’s life, if you’re interested let me know in the comments and I’ll post something more.

Here‘s a link to an online gallery with some of Sandrun’s works.

Humans published on Sedition Art – limited edition of 50

The work “Humans” has been published on Sedition Art, now you can see the final animation, edition is limited to 50:

The work is composed by a representation of the de-evolving System “offered” to the viewers and an organic mutant geometry: the citizens/people, collaborating, fighting and organizing themselves in an hypnotic ballet. The discrete time unit is based on decades and centuries, forming a time-lapse harvesting its data from a range lasting thousands of years.
